The Vietnam National Defence television channel (QPVN) has made its
official debut on the occasion of President Ho Chi Minh’s 123 rd
birthday.

Defence Minister General Phung Quang Thanh
and other senior officials pressed the button to kick-start the channel
at a May 19 ceremony, which was broadcast live on the Vietnam
Television’s VTV 1 channel.

Speaking at the event,
Minister Thanh described the channel as an official organ of the
Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defence as well
as the voice of the Vietnamese armed forces and people.

The channel will popularise the building of the people’s army and the
all-people national defence in the new period, he said.

It will also provide viewers with reliable and timely information
about orientations of the Party, State, the Central Military Commission
and the Ministry of National Defence, Thanh noted, asking the channel to
expand cooperation with other radio and TV channels.

Apart from news and documentaries, the QPVN channel, which is
dedicated to the national defence task, also entertains people with
interesting movies and sports programmes.

The channel will be on the air 18.5 hours a day, from 5.30 to 24.00, via
VCTV, SCTV, HTVC, and Viettel’s IPTV and Mobile TV services.-VNA
