Japanese Kendo practitioners, sumo wrestlers and karate artists will
have performances at the fifth International Festival of Vietnamese
Martial Arts in the central province of Binh Dinh, a birthplace of
traditional martial arts “Viet Vo Dao”.

As planned, they will show off their skills in An Nhon commune, districts of Tuy Phuoc and Tay Son, and Quy Nhon city.

During the four-day event, Binh Dinh will also play host to a photo exhibition, a street and cuisine festival.

“Viet Vo Dao”, or Vovinam, based on the principle of harmony between
hard and soft, was founded by grandmaster Nguyen Loc less than a hundred
years ago during the French colonisation in Vietnam. He developed the
martial arts mainly for self-defence that uses force and reaction of the
opponent in the fighting.

Practiced in around 50 countries
worldwide, the traditional martial arts involves kicking, throwing,
punching and escape-and levering techniques.-VNA
