In the last three matches, Ha Noi-based Huy overcame defending champion Le Quang Liem who had dominated local tournaments for years to take the men’s title with 10.5 points after 11 rounds.
Liem, on Wednesday, won the rapid event.
On the women’s side, Pham Le Thao Nguyen pocketed the blitz while Nguyen Bich Ngoc made a big bang as she left all title favourites far behind to take the rapid title.
After the tournament, masters will take part in intensive training in preparation for the Asian Continental Championships in the Philippines next month.
