Europe Days 2013 in Vietnam to mark Europe Day (May 9) will
feature a series of cultural and intellectual events, according to Dr.
Franz Jessen, Ambassador-Head of the Delegation of the European Union
(EU) to Vietnam.
At a press conference
on May 2 in Hanoi, Jessen said the “Europe Days” programme, which
has been held annually over the past nine years in Vietnam, will
start on the evening of May 9 with a concert in Hanoi and another in
Ho Chi Minh City.
A variety of European
cultural traditions will be seen in the European Literature Day
organised by the European Union National Institute for Culture (
EUNIC), presenting literature from Europe for the third time in
Hanoi . Books from Italy, Spain, Belgium’s Wallonia region,
Germany and other EU nations that have recently been translated into
Vietnamese will be presented at the event.
The annual European
Film Festival, entitled “Europe on Screen” promises to delight
Vietnamese spectators with 16 inspiring films from 14 members of the EU.
The Swedish film Eat Sleep Die will mark the opening of the festival
in Hanoi on May 16.
To the goal of boosting understanding
between Europeans and Vietnamese through people-to-people exchanges, the
Ambassadors from European countries will meet with Vietnamese students
at an event called “Reaching out to the Youth”
In addition, a
German comic book exhibition entitled “ Comics, Manga Co. – The
New German Comics Cu lture”, a talk show on Green Development
Options for Vietnam, and two EU-Vietnam friendly football matches
will be organised on the occasion.-VNA
