A graphic artwork by Dang Huyen Trang, 25, won top prize in a visual arts competition inspired by the novel Life of Pi.
The book by Canadian author Yann Martel tells the story of 16-year-old
Pi’s long journey on a small boat in the Pacific Ocean with an
unexpected companion, a Bengal tiger.
Launched in April by
the Canadian Embassy and Nha Nam Culture and Communication JSC to mark
the World Book Day and celebrate 40 years of Canada-Vietnam diplomatic
relations, the competition was open to people aged 15 to 25.
The organising board received many entries in various genres such as
drawing, painting, photography, graphic design and video.
“This
award-winning novel sparked the creativity of many Vietnamese young
people,” said Canadian Ambassador Deborah Chatsis. “We’re so happy that
the competition helped readers have a better understanding of the beauty
and diversity of Canada .”
Winner Trang said she read the
book as a student, but was really moved by the Oscar-winning film
directed by Ang Lee. Inspired by the film, she tried to express the hope
of life through her work.-VNA
