With a desire to make practical contributions to the Inter-Parliamentary
Union (IPU)’s efforts and development, the Vietnamese National Assembly
has officially offered to host the IPU Assembly in 2015.
At a reception for IPU Secretary General Anders B. Johnsson in Hanoi
on Feb. 20, NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung highlighted the IPU’s role,
position and achievements in promoting democracy in the world and its
assistance to parliaments in overcoming development challenges.
He said he hoped the IPU Executive Committee will make accurate assessments and an early approval of Vietnam ’s offer.
Vietnam is actively completing its preparation schemes to be
submitted to the IPU Secretariat for approval and will do its best to
make it a success.
Hung informed his guest of
Vietnam ’s political stability and security, noting that the NA has
renewed its activities to better implement the task of representing
voters’ will and desire, ensuring gender equality and protecting human
rights.
In reply, Johnsson highlighted Vietnamese
NA’s renewals and its increasing role and position in the State
apparatus and active contributions to IPU’s activities.
He said he believed Vietnam will successfully organise the special
international event, adding that he will complete his report right after
he leaves Vietnam to present to the IPU Executive Committee for its
final decision.
IPU will send its experts to help Vietnam in its preparations, he stressed.-VNA
