At around 2am on April 9, fire broke out in the parking lot of Quoc Dat Company, in Cao Lanh City, Dong Thap Province.

Five fire trucks and 60 firefighters worked hard for more than an hour to put the fire under control. No one was injured, but nine buses were burnt.

According to a representative of Quoc Dat Company, there were 13 buses in the parking lot, which is fenced and locked.

Because so many vehicles were simultaneously burnt, the local authorities have doubt of somebody set the fire. The police are urgently investigating the fire.

The total loss in this fire is more than VND800 million ($40,000).

In 2009, five cars of Quoc Dat Company were also burned down once.

It is said that Quoc Dat borrowed banking loans to invest in its equipment. From 2009 to 2012, this firm did business at loss and was distrained by creditors. The 13 buses did not run for nearly one year. The authorities are performing formalities to sell these assets to pay for creditors.

The buses were offered for sale at the price of VND80 million but nobody was interested. The price was about to be lowered when the buses caught fire. Notably, these cars are still insured.

Investigators said that actually, up to 11 out of 13 buses were burnt, with 9 buses damaged by 70-80 percent and 2 others slightly damaged.
