VietNamNet Bridge – In early 2013, Vietnam had about 857,000 unemployed workers, of which women accounted for the majority with 53.8 percent.

The General Statistics Office has released the employment investigation report of the fourth quarter of 2012. Accordingly, the unemployment rate in urban areas is higher than rural areas and more women are unemployed than men. By 01/01/2013, Vietnam had over 1.3 million people who lacked employment and 857,000 unemployed people in the total of workforce from 15 years old or older. Compared to 1/1/2012, the number of people lacking employment increased by 69,300 people and the number of unemployed workers rose by 4,300.

Besides, up to 83.3 percent of the people who lack employment living in rural areas and 55.6 percent of them were men. In contrast, the number of unemployed women is higher than men (53.8 percent).

In the fourth quarter of 2012, the number of unemployed people at the age of 15 to 24 accounted for 45.7 percent of the total of unemployed workers. The proportion in urban areas (38.3 percent) is less than rural areas (53.2 percent). Meanwhile, the number of employment-lacking people aging from 15 to 24 accounted for 22 percent of the total number of job-lacking people and there was no significant difference between urban and rural areas.
