VietNamNet Bridge – Vietnam Family Year 2013 was jointly launched in Hanoi on March 16 by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Vietnam Women’s Union.

It aims to build a model of a sustainable family, fight against domestic violence, protect the environment, prevent traffic accidents, and promote the Marriage and Family Law, the Law on Child Care and Protection, the Anti-Domestic Violence Law and the Law on Gender Equality.

In his speech, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan confirmed that creating happy and prosperous families in all social classes has always been a goal of the Party and State.

In 2001, the Prime Minister designated June 28 as Vietnam Family Day. Four years later, the Party’s Secretariat issued a directive on building strong families during the process of national industrialisation and modernisation.

In 2012, the Prime Minister approved a strategy for family development through 2020 with a vision to 2030. The Vietnam Women’s Union also launched a campaign of building a good family model of “Five Nos, Three Cleans”.

Deputy PM Nhan noted that Vietnam Family Year 2013 presents an opportunity for every person, family, agency and organisation to review family affairs and carry out practical activities to make breakthroughs in family affairs development.

He asked designated ministries and agencies to enhance communications to raise public awareness of family values, organise workshops, and integrate family affairs discussions into school activities.

The Deputy PM thanked international organisations for having providing assistance to family, woman and child care and protection over the years.

A parade and walk around Hoan Kiem (Returned Sword) Lake to promote Vietnam Family Year 2013 took place after the launching ceremony.
