Doctor Tran Van Son, deputy head of the Emergency Department at the city’s Viet Nam-Cuba Hospital, was punched in the face by Le Minh Hai, a patient’s relative, while trying to stop a brawl that occurred at the hospital on Monday night.
The assault caused corneal laceration, eyeball injury and bleeding in Son’s eye.
Le Minh Hai, 22, from Central Highlands’ Gia Lai Province, has been charged with causing a public order offense. He has been temporarily placed under arrest for three months.
The police are also investigating two other defendants – Phan Hoang Dieu, 26, and Nguyen Trung Thong, 33 – who teamed up with Hai against the doctor during the assault.
The police said they will launch an official investigation into the gang on the two charges of “causing a public order offense” and “deliberately inflicting injuries” once they have enough evidence.
On Monday night, Le Tran Minh Tam and Y Giang Long from Gia Lai Province, victims of a traffic accident, were taken to the Viet Nam-Cuba Hospital in Dong Hoi City for treatment.
A while later, Tam was called out to the hallway by Long’s relatives (Hai, Dieu, Thong) where he was punched three times in the right eye by Hai, which damaged his eye socket. Doctor Son got beaten while trying to stop Hai from hitting Tam.
Medical employee assaulted
The police of Huong Khe District in the central province of Ha Tinh on Wednesday commenced criminal proceedings against resident Hoang Xuan Hai, 26, who stabbed a medical employee at the medical centre of Huong Long Commune last Friday, for “deliberately inflicting injuries.”
Tran Thi Thanh Hai, deputy head of the centre, was stabbed several times in the right arm with a knife by Xuan Hai during her shift. She previously refused Xuan Hai sterile water infusion because he was drunk, the Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper reported.
