Measures to help coastal areas adapt to climate change were discussed at
a workshop in the southern coastal province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau
on May 15.
The discussions were part of the
VIETADAPT project – a joint effort of the Geological Survey of Finland (GTK), the Vietnam Institute of Meteorology, Hydrology and Environment
(IMHEN) and the Vietnamese Centre for Water Resources Planning and
Investigation (CWRPI).
The project is financed by ICI Funds under the Finish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Participants looked at climate change scenarios of target areas,
debated climate change impacts on socio-economic development, and
identified areas vulnerable to climate change.
Experts
of the GTK, IMHEN, and CWRPI presented the outcomes of their studies
on trends of temperature, rainfall, sea level rise and climate change
scenarios of Ba Ria-Vung Tau province.
They also
reported on climate change impacts on underground water resources in the
province, and recommended climate change adaptation measures for the
locality.-VNA
