The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) has signed
implementation agreements with GIZ, the German Federal enterprise for
international development cooperation, for two projects on forest
biodiversity conservation and coastal forest protection, the Quan Doi
Nhan Dan reported.

The project “Conservation and
Sustainable Use of Forest Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services” aims to
create the preconditions for the conservation and sustainable use of
biodiversity and ecosystem services in Vietnam’s forests at the central
level.

The project has 4.5 million EUR in
non-refundable aid from the German Government via the Federal Ministry
for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and 450,000 EUR from the
Vietnamese government.

Meanwhile, Phase Two of the
project “Integrated Coastal and Mangrove Forest Protection in the Mekong
Provinces for the Adaptation to Climate Change (ICMP)” aims to
efficiently manage and protect coastal ecosystems in the Mekong Delta in
order to mitigate and adapt to environmental hazards related to climate
change.

The ICMP project has a total budget of 8.8
million EUR, including 4.5 million EUR from the German government, 3.5
million EUR from the Australian government and 800,000 EUR from the
Vietnamese government.-VNA
