Vietnamese and Japanese
experts gathered together at a seminar in the southern province of Dong
Nai on October 15 to share their experiences in wastewater treatment
techniques, especially in the plating industry and animal husbandry.

Dong Nai is home to 27 industrial parks, said Deputy
Chairwoman of the provincial People’s Committee Phan Thi My Thanh,
adding that as the locality has yet been able to fulfill its work in
industrial sewage treatment, environmental pollution remains an implicit
threat.

According to the local Department of
Natural Resources and Environment, the number of businesses operating in
the plating field is relatively high, discharging a negligible amount
of wastewater but which contains a lot of metal pollutants that are
difficult to fully treat.

Deputy Director of the
Global Environment Fund Kazuhiro Oishi said both Vietnam and Japan
have to face environmental issues such as polluted air, land, water as
well as noise, especially in the development progress.

The process to treat sewage containing heavy metals requires hi-tech
application, which costs a lot and takes time, Oishi stressed.

Some Japanese businesses operating in the environmental sector
introduced their new cutting-edged technology in industrial wastewater
and solid waste treatment.

They said they are
willing to cooperate with local authorities and businesses to invest in
the sewage treatment technology.-VNA
