The Regional Steering Committee of the Mangroves for the Future (MFF)
initiative convened its tenth meeting in Hoi An city, the central
province of Quang Nam, on September 11.
The MFF groups
Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Maldives, Pakistan,
Seychelles, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam.
During the four-day event, the participants will discuss problems
facing efforts to preserve mangrove forests, while drafting solutions
and investment plans in regional coastal ecosystems.
The MFF
is a partnership-based initiative promoting investments in coastal
ecosystems that support sustainable development.
It provides a
platform for member countries, sectors and agencies to collaborate in
tackling the challenges to coastal ecosystem conservation and livelihood
sustainability.
Vietnam joined the initiative in 2010
and has so far participated in 15 MFF projects, contributing to
protecting its rich resources in coastal regions and the lives of people
residing in and around mangroves.
Since 2010, the MFF
initiative has invested 1 million USD in ecological recovery and
livelihood improvement in Vietnam’s coastal areas.-VNA
