VietNamNet Bridge – An environment service company has successfully set up
the garbage treatment system with the incineration technology with heat
recovery.

The invention of the Thang Long Environment Service Company in Hanoi has got the
patent for utility solutions from the National Office for Intellectual Property
(NOIP). It has been certified as incinerating domestic garbage, treating exhaust
fumes and waste water, meeting the currently applied environment standards.

The new features of the advanced technology

The 2011 national environment report shows that the waste volume has been
increasing rapidly. Every year, Vietnam generates 28 million tons of normal
solid waste, including 19 million tons of domestic waste.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment (MONRE) has predicted that
by 2015, the amount of solid domestic waste in urban areas would be 37,000 tons
a day, while the figure would be 59,000 tons by 2020, which is double or triple
the current volume.

Hanoi alone discharges 5,000-6,000 tons of domestic solid waste every day.

With the forecast domestic solid waste increasing by 10-16 percent per annum,
the landfills would not be capable to receive more solid waste by the end of
2012.

Therefore, the Thang Long’s technology of incineration with heat recovery
utilized in treating solid waste has been applauded.

The new technology has been found as having many new features. Its garbage
cutting equipment allows to cut garbage into equal parts, thus making the
garbage drying process more effective.

The technology also allows to collect heat from the smoke to dry garbage and
warm the air provided to the incineration chamber.

Especially, it can eliminate incombustible elements of the garbage before
putting the garbage into incineration. With the ability to dry garbage and air,
the technology can help partially save fuel.

Scientists have also found out that the technology allows to optimize the
treatment of the waste which can cause pollution, reduce the greenhouse gas by
75 percent and reduce 85 percent of the land fund needed for garbage treatment.

High economic efficiency

The most important characteristic of the technology is that it is a made in
Vietnam product, which means that it is less costly than other technologies,
allowing to treat the domestic waste quickly. It not only helps save the state’s
resources in waste treatment, but also can create jobs to local people.

The technology can be utilized largely in an industrial scale, the equipments
for the treatment system can be made of the domestically sourced materials,
while the system can be easily managed and operated. It has been utilized at the
Son Tay waste treatment plant which has the daily capacity of 300 tons. The
plant has been running since January 2012, in charge of treating the waste of
the city.

The plant reportedly has the working capacity of 83 percent of the designed
capacity.

Scientists, while highly appreciating the technology, have affirmed that Vietnam
has been step by step, mastering the technology of treating solid waste, thus
paving the way for making research and developing the environment industry.

The process and waste treatment system has got the third prize from the
organization board of the 2012 Vietnam Science and Technology Innovation Awards.
It has also been awarded the 2012 Vietnam Intellectual Property Gold Cup.
