The 2013 Vietnam-Japan Economic Summit themed “Strengthening bilateral
ties for the new era” opened in Hanoi on September 5, as part of
activities to mark the 40th anniversary of the two countries’
diplomatic relations.
Addressing the event, Chairman of the
Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) Vu Tien Loc said that
over the past four decades, Japan has been Vietnam ’s strategically
important strategic partner. The country leads others in investment in
Vietnam , both in quantity and quality, he added.
Executive Vice President of the Japan External Trade Organisation
(JETRO) Daisuke Hiratsuka said in his speech that Vietnam ’s improved
investment environment, financial and banking restructuring,
infrastructure and support industry will forge new economic ties between
the two nations.
Co-hosted by the VCCI, JETRO, the Japan
Business Publication, the Vietnam Economic Times, the Japanese Embassy
in Vietnam, the Japan International Cooperation Agency and the
Vietnam-Japan Friendship Parliamentarian Alliance, the event is expected
to connect firms and update business and cultural exchange
opportunities.
Japan is now the biggest donor of official
development assistance to Vietnam with a value of nearly 22 billion
USD.
The country is also the third largest bilateral trade
partner of Vietnam with two-way trade reaching 25 billion USD last
