The Vietnam agricultural outlook conference took place on April 4 to
review Vietnamese and global agriculture five years after Vietnam’s
admission to the World Trade Organisation.
the conference expect that agriculture in 2013 will face many challenges
due to the slow recovery of the global economy, as well as declining
agro-export prices, and unexpected natural disasters and epidemics.
The sector met its goals set for 2012 including exports of rice,
coffee, and wood products that hit over 3 billion USD. In addition,
seafood exports ranked fourth in the world.
However, the growth rate of the whole industry decreased to 2.72 percent from 4 percent.
Concerted measures including sustainable development and short-term
solutions along with restructuring in farming, breeding, aquaculture and
epidemic prevention are needed for Vietnam’s agriculture sector to
develop, experts said.-VNA
