Several major US companies have affirmed their support for Vietnam’s participation in TPP negotiations and committed to expand their
operations and investment in the country.

This was
the outcome of meetings between Vietnamese Ambassador to the US Nguyen
Quoc Cuong and leaders and businesses from the two US states of
Kentucky and Ohio on April 10-12. The ambassador was joining his
counterparts from other countries involved in the negotiations of the
trans-Pacific partnership (TPP) agreement, in a working trip arranged by
the US Business Coalition for TPP.

During those
meetings, Ambassador Cuong affirmed Vietnam gives priority to and is
resolved to accelerate TPP negotiations together with other countries,
adding that it is an important step in the country’s policy on renewal
and international integration.

The Vietnamese
diplomat also called on US enterprises’ support to ensure that TPP will
be a well-balanced agreement meeting the diverse interests of all member
countries.

The leaderships of General Electric and
ProcterGamble told the ambassador that they have plans to expand
operations in Vietnam . Meanwhile, the United Parcels Service (UPS)
representative said the company appreciated the Vietnamese government’s
permission for UPS to establish a 100-percent foreign-owned company
in the country.

Within the framework of the
trip, Ambassador Cuong also granted interviews to three inter-state and
regional radio stations of Dallas and Houston cities, Texas state, on
TPP agreement and economic relations between Vietnam and the US.-VNA
