According to Tran Hong Mai, deputy head of the ministry’s BIM Steering Committee, BIM is an important solution for the construction industry to approach the 4.0 era.

Previously, BIM was applied in several foreign-invested run or designed projects in Viet Nam but the tool is now gaining the attention of domestic organisations, developers and contractors.

Mai said the application of BIM in Viet Nam’s construction sector remained modest and lacked orientation despite its benefits.

BIM would help improve productivity, quality and efficiency of construction investment and facility management, he said.

BIM would equip Vietnamese architecture, engineering and construction professional with skills and tools to design, construct and operate buildings that involved creating and using intelligent 3D models.

Viet Nam’s growth in the building and construction industry would be further accelerated with the adaptation of BIM, Daniel Green, director of Government Affairs, Autodesk, Asia-Pacific, said.

In 2017-19, focus would be on raising awareness and encouraging companies to explore BIM implementation, while BIM would be applied and evaluated for pilot projects during 2018-20.

The ministry planned to roll out BIM nationwide from 2011 onwards with the issuance of detailed guidelines for applying BIM in construction and facility management.
