Quang Ninh airport gets green light from PM
HA NOI (VNS)— Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has authorised the People’s Committee of northern Quang Ninh Province to act as a State agency to implement the Quang Ninh airport project.
In a directive issued early this week, the PM asked the committee to host and coordinate with the Korea Airport Corporation, Joinus Viet Nam Joint Stock Company and Posco EC Join Stock Company, to finalise a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) feasibility study report which will be the basis for the project implementation.
The committee, in coordination with the ministries of Planning and Investment, Transport, and other relevant agencies, will assess and approve the feasibility study report, implement the next steps of the project, including selection of the investor in accordance with the current law.
Located at Doan Ket Commune, Van Don Island District, the airport has been designed to meet the standard of the International Civil Aviation Organisation, and will have a capacity of handling five million passengers and 30,000 tonnes of cargo per year.
The project will be built on 248.6 ha, with an investment capital of VND5.12 trillion (US$234.8 million), and will serve both civilians and the army.
The Quang Ninh Airport project is one of four airport projects nationwide which have invited foreign investment. The other three projects are Long Thanh International Airport in southern Dong Nai Province, Cam Ranh International Airport in southern Khanh Hoa Province, and Lao Cai Airport in northern Lao Cai Province. — VNS
