Mekong Delta provinces have set this year’s average income per capita
goal at 36 million VND (1,700 USD), up 3.7 million VND against last
year.
In order to realise this objective, the
provinces should focus on comprehensive development across every aspect
of agriculture, industry, trade, services and tourism.
As agriculture is the region’s strongpoint, the diversification of
products as well as intensive cultivation based on each locality’s
strength should be focused on.
Regarding industry,
the region should attach importance to small- and medium-sized
manufacturing, exploit the sea’s potential and promote the efficiency of
maritime transportation and industrial zones.
Increasing production capability, quality of agro-aquatic exports and
construction materials, along with developing tourism and services –
especially eco-tourism and the transformation of Phu Quoc into an
international trading and tourist centre and Can Tho into an industrial,
commercial and services centre – require significant thought and care.
In addition, technology and transport upgrades,
social problems relating to environmental protection, job creation,
poverty reduction and social welfare are also pressing the localities.-VNA
