HCM City — Many trade centres, supermarkets and traditional markets in HCM City reopened on Wednesday, the second day of the Lunar New Year.
The Saigon Coop and Saigon Trading Corporation (SATRA) retail network, which covers StraMart, Strafood and CelltreMall, were among businesses to open their chains soonest during the holiday.
From now until Saturday, the Co.opmart supermarket system will open from 8am to 12pm and return to normal operating hours on Sunday. CoopXtra will present lucky money to customers who spend over VNĐ400,000 from Thursday to Sunday.
VISSAN food stores and VISSAN PREMIUM high-end food stores of VISSAN Joint Stock Company also launched discounts from 10-15 per cent on some products.
At the Vạn Hạnh Mall in District 10, SC VivoCity in District 7, Giga Mall in Thủ Đức District and Aeon Mall Bình Tân in Bình Tân District, most holiday shoppers can be spotted around the food courts and entertainment areas.
The Highland Coffee chain at the Giga Mall is now crowded with customers. Many brands of milk tea shops at SC VivoCity have attracted young people enjoying the festive atmosphere.
Nguyễn Thanh Tâm, a resident of Thủ Đức District and currently working and living in the southern province of Bình Dương, said he had already visited his parents on the first day of the Tết holiday, so on the second day he brought his family members to the city centre to enjoy food and the rest of Tết.
At traditional markets, fresh food sellers continue to ensure abundant supply for customers. According to businesses here, the best-selling items are seafood, chicken, vegetables, fruits and flowers.
Minh Anh, a salesperson at Bà Chiểu market, said that in order to have enough chicken for worship on the 3rd day of the Lunar New Year, most small traders had to prepare and store the meat before Tết.
“We encouraged consumers to reserve or pre-order food before Tết,” said Anh.
Districts, markets, supermarkets and convenience stores reported that the city’s market had been relatively stable during the holiday.
The market has a plentiful supply of goods and various categories with reasonable prices, in which the products belonging to the Market Stabilisation Programme ensure adequate and timely supply for the city’s distribution system. — VNS
