Expo showcases furniture, home accessories
HCM CITY (VNS)— More than 130 local and international companies are displaying products at the Viet Nam International Furniture and Home Accessories Fair which opened in HCM City yesterday.
Held at the Sai Gon Convention and Exhibition Centre until March 14, VIFA 2013 features 604 booths showcasing indoor and outdoor furniture, handicrafts, equipment and tools for wood processing.
Seminars will be held during the fair, including one on the US’s safety regulations and standards as well as the EU’s, with the aim of helping enterprises better understand the requirements of these markets when exporting their products.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Nguyen Chien Thang, chairman of the Handicrafts and Wood Industry Association of HCM City, the event’s organiser, said: “Potential clients who visit VIFA 2013 will have a chance to verify wood quality as well as ecological quality of the products made from legal wood.”
Le Van Khoa, deputy director of the HCM City Department of Industry and Trade, said despite economic difficulties worldwide, Viet Nam’s wooden furniture industry has achieved US$4.67 billion from exports last year, a year-on-year increase of 17.9 per cent.
The trade fair will provide businesses an opportunity to receive feedback and ideas from consumers, distributors, buyers so they can meet better market demand. — VNS
