Vietnam Electricity began construction on a seaport for the Duyen Hai
Electricity Centre in the southern province of Tra Vinh on April
21.

The port is part of a master plan for the power
complex in Dan Thanh commune, Duyen Hai district. It aims to handle 12
million tonnes of coal and 100,000 tonnes of oil per year for the
centre’s three thermal power plants.

The port will
cover more than 427 hectares of water, and include two coal terminals
for 30,000-tonne ships, one oil terminal for 1,000-tonne ships, a 3.9km
bulkhead, and a loading/unloading coal system together with electricity,
water and communication facilities.

The port is
being built by China Communications Construction Company Ltd. with a
total investment of over 5.8 trillion VND (about 280 million USD) and is
scheduled to be completed in 32 months.-VNA
