HÀ NỘI — The volume of goods through Vietnamese seaports reached more than 544 million tonnes (excluding transit goods not handled at the port) in the first ten months of this year, data from the Việt Nam Maritime Administration showed.
In particular, the volume of container cargo reached nearly 16 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs).
The total cargo through seaports increased by 12 per cent compared to the same period last year and container cargo increased by about 6 per cent.
The area with the highest increasing volume of cargo nationwide is the central province of Thanh Hóa, increasing 48 per cent from nearly 18.6 million tonnes to over 27.3 million tonnes as the Nghi Sơn Oil Refinery went into operation.
The volume of cargo through the south-central province of Bình Thuận increased 46 per cent (from more than 9.2 million tonnes to more than 13.46 million tonnes) as the Vĩnh Tân international port was opened and can accommodate dry cargo ships from 30,000 – 100,000 tons.
Some seaports also saw positive growth compared to the same period last year, including provinces of Nam Định, Quảng Ninh, Cần Thơ, Hà Tĩnh, HCM City, Hải Phòng and Vũng Tàu.
However, some seaports saw a decrease in cargo, such as these in the coastal city of Nha Trang in Khánh Hòa Province and the central province of Quảng Trị. — VNS
