Youth Orchestra returns for two concerts in Ha Noi

HA NOI — The Asian Youth Orchestra (AYO) will play two concerts in Ha Noi Opera House on August 10 and 11. The Asian Youth Orchestra’s annual concert, which consists of the 100 best young musicians in Asia, chosen annually, will take place in Ha Noi for the second time.
Their first performance in Ha Noi was held in 2011.
It is a golden opportunity for audiences in Ha Noi to be entertained by musical masterpieces such as Brahms’s Symphony No 3; Haydn’s Cello Concerto in C and Beethoven’s Symphony No 5 on Saturday.
Sunday’s concert will see the musicians play the Overture to Der Freischutz; the Cello Concert in B and Symphony No 2, by composers Weber, Dvorak and Sibelius.
The English cello soloist Steven Isserlis will join the orchestra, under the baton of the two conductors James Judd and Richard Pontzious, promising an spectacular concert.
The three Vietnamese, clarinettist Tran Khanh Quang, a teacher from the Viet Nam National Academy of Music (VNAM)’s Department of Percussion and Wind Instruments and the two third-year students Tran Hong Nhung and Phung Hoai Thu from the Department of String Instruments.
The Ha Noi-concerts are a part of the orchestra’s tour, from July 19 to August 31, to Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, mainland China and Taiwan.
Viet Nam has contributed to the orchestra since 1996, providing young musicians from the VNAM. Those selected for the full scholarship programme study with an exceptional artists faculty of principal players from across the world.
Since its inaugural concerts in 1990, the AYO has played hundreds of concerts in Asia, Europe, the US and Australia to a combined audience of more than one million classical music lovers.
Highlights in the AYO’s history include the first concerts played by musicians from mainland China and Taiwan, in Beijing and Taipei and the world premiere performance of Chinese composer Tan Dun’s Symphony with cellist Yo-Yo Ma, in Hong Kong and Beijing.
The 1hour 40 minute-concerts will begin at 8pm. Tickets will be VND200,000; 350,000; 500,000 and 700,000. — VNS
