HA NOI (VNS) – The unique art form of water puppetry will be presented for the first time at the Vietnamese Festival 2014 in Tokyo.

Being held on September 13 and 14, the seventh season of the annual Vietnamese Festival will focus on the theme “Hand in Hand”.

According to Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan Doan Xuan Hung, the Vietnamese Festival is the biggest cultural exchange event between the two countries.

“The highlight of this year’s festival will be water puppetry. Although we wished to present this special and unique art form in previous festivals, we couldn’t do so because of difficulties in transporting the required equipment,” the diplomat said at a press conference on the event on Tuesday.

“However, this year we have found a solution to the problem, so I believe that the puppetry performances will wow the Japanese audience.”

Head of the festival’s organising board and former senator Iwao Matsuda said the event was a great opportunity for the people of the two countries to come closer.

Last year, more than 150,000 visitors, including the Japanese people and the Vietnamese living in Japan, attended the festival. — VNS
