MOSCOW — Vietnamese movies that have won domestic and international awards are being screened during a film festival held in Moscow, the capital of Russia.

The event is being held under a co-operation programme in theatre and cinematography between Việt Nam and Russia for 2019-21.

In a welcome letter, acting head of the cinematography agency under Russia’s Ministry of Culture Svetlana Maximchenko highlighted the regular cultural cooperation between the two countries.

The screenings of Russian movies in Việt Nam and Vietnamese ones in Russia are held frequently, demonstrating their people’s interest in each other’s cultural values, she added.

Counsellor Minister at the Vietnamese Embassy in Russia Nguyễn Quỳnh Mai said Việt Nam-Russia cultural co-operation is thriving, illustrated by frequent cultural exchanges.

According to her, despite the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ministry of Culture of Russia, Việt Nam’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourists, the embassy of Việt Nam in Russia and Fest-Film Company have managed to jointly organise the Vietnamese film week in Russia.

She voiced hope that the event will strengthen bilateral collaboration in culture and cinema, contributing to the countries’ friendship.

The films to be screened during the event include Hạnh Phúc Của Mẹ (The Happiness of a Mother), directed by Phạm Huỳnh Đông; Truyền Thuyết Về Quán Tiên (The Legend of Quán Tiên) by Đinh Tuấn Vũ; Song Lang (The Tap Box) by Leon Lê; Thạch Thảo (Forget Me Not) by Mai Thế Hiệp and Đảo Của Dân Ngụ Cư (The Way Station) by Hồng Ánh.

A Moscow resident named Rosa said she was excited to learn about the culture and people of Việt Nam through the films.

Maria, a student from The Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia, expressed her wish to see the beauty of the culture of Việt Nam where she was born, reflected in the films.
