HA NOI (VNS) — Amateur Ly Giam Tien beat designers Hong Lam and Minh Quan to grab the top prize at the Project Runway Viet Nam 2014 last night in HCM City.

Tien, 18, was the youngest of the top three contestants in the show’s second season. His win was no surprise because he was seen to be the contestant with the maximum potential with his creativeness and skilful techniques.

Tien’s designs were highly appreciated by the jurors and won several challenges during the two-month contest.

On the final night, the top three contestants displayed their collections, which were inspired by the French architecture they saw during a recent field trip to Paris.

The three-member jury, which included Dominique Chardon Savard, head of the fashion institute Atelier Chardon Savard in Paris, was deeply impressed by Tien’s collection.

“For other designers Paris is romantic and ancient, but for me it is very modern and glorious,” Tien said.

He has made smart use of black, white and red colours and three-dimensional images in his collection, according to Savard.

Tien will receive VND300 million in cash. His collection will be launched during the New York Couture Fashion Week 2014. The second and third prizes went to Lam and Quan.
