HCM CITY —  In recent weeks, HCM City residents have been spending time flying kites in the late afternoon to evening after they finish work.

Flying kites is a traditional folk activity of the Vietnamese. It has become a favourite entertainment activity of citizens in recent years.

Visitors can see hundreds of kites of different types, shapes and sizes flying above empty land lots on Kim Cương (Diamond) Island in District 2, near a bridge that links Mai Chí Thọ Highway with Thạnh Mỹ Lợi residential area.

Couples, family and friends visit to enjoy fly kites or just watch all the colourful activity.

From 4pm to 6pm, many people gather to show their kite flying skills to visitors. Professionals and amateurs of all ages gather at the park.

The number of kite flyers and viewers has risen significantly recently, enabling kite sellers to earn a good income.

Other kite flying areas, which include empty land lots for sale in districts 2, 7, 8, Hóc Môn, Bình Chánh and Thủ Đức, attract hundreds of people at weekends. — VNS
