Six more railway routes planned

LAM DONG (VNS)— Local authorities in the Central Highland city of Da Lat have approved a plan to build six new railway routes from the city centre to several tourism sites by 2020, according to Truong Huu Hiep, director of the Lam Dong provincial Transport Department.

The routes will link the city centre to Lang Bian mountain, Tuyen Lam Lake, Love Valley, the Central Highland Biological Institute and Lien Khuong Airport, across a total length of up to 90km.

The estimated expense for the project is about VND42 trillion (US$2 billion ), mobilised from private investors.

The project will involve installing a mono-railway, which will carry six-carriage trains to run at speeds of 30-40km per hour.

The once famed 84km-long railway route linking Thap Cham (in the central province of Phan Rang) and Da Lat will be restored at a cost of VND3.9 trillion ($185 million).

The Thap Cham – Da Lat route will be completed by 2015.-VNS
