Helping hands: Dem Rung Chien Tranh (A Night in the Wood during War) by Ha Noi-based painter Bui Quang Anh is being displayed alongside works by HCM City-based Trinh Thanh Tung at a joint exhibition in the Tu Do Gallery.
HCM CITY (VNS)— A collection of works done with his hands and fingers by stalwart Bui Quang Anh is on show at a painting exhibition he has organised along with another veteran, Trinh Thanh Tung, at the HCM City-based Tu Do Gallery.
Summer Paintings showcases 13 oil-on-canvas paintings by each of them.
The Ha Noi-based Anh, 73, who does not use brushes or other tools, creates subjects ranging from landscapes like in Dem Rung Chien Tranh (A Night in the Wood during War) to women like in Thieu Nu Mua Ha (A Girl in Summer).
Born in Hai Duong Province, he graduated from the Ha Noi Fine Arts College in 1968, and was a military painter for years.
He has held exhibitions in Viet Nam and places like Berlin (Germany), Budapest (Hungary), Moscow (Russia), and Beijing (China).
His works are on permanent display at the Viet Nam Fine Arts Museum.
Tung, 71, is partial to images of young women to reflect his feelings about life and the country.
On display are works like Ha Trang (White Summer) and Thieu Nu Ao Hoa (Young Lady in Flower Blouse).
The HCM City artist started his painting career in 1958. He won a bronze medal at the 1990 National Art Exhibition in Ha Noi and a Medal for Vietnamese Fine Arts Achievements in 1997.
His paintings have been displayed all over Viet Nam and in countries like Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, and the US.
The exhibition will remain open until July 30 at the gallery at 53 Ho Tung Mau Street, District 1. — VNS
