ĐÀ LẠT — The Central Highlands province of Lâm Đồng People’s Committee has requested local authorities to be well prepared for the 9th Đà Lạt Flower Festival 2022, held at the end of this year in the tourism hub city of Đà Lạt.
The provincial authority in its recently issued document asked local authorities including district departments and agencies to boost urban embellishment, advertisements, dissemination, and plans for flower planting in preparation for the festival.
It has directed to urgently review and speed up the progress of investment projects especially those in infrastructure upgrading and urban embellishment, to be completed before October 30, 2022, to serve the organising of the big event.
Based on assigned functions and tasks, the committee has also ordered local authorities to complete the clearance of works encroaching on road safety corridors, strictly control constructions in the area, and regularly organise deployments to handle issues related to street encroachment and temporary markets, while performing environmental protection work in accordance with regulations.
The committee early this month announced plans for the 9th Đà Lạt Flower Festival from November to late December this year.
The biennial national and international cultural-tourism event will continue to affirm the value and brand of Đà Lạt as a city of Flower Festivals and the floriculture of a “gentle, elegant, and hospitability”.
It also aims to honour the value of flowers, promote tourism and trade, and call for greater domestic and international cooperation and investment throughout the locality.
Along with hosting traditional art flower spaces, organisers will arrange a wide range of activities during the festival, including a helicopter tour of Đà Lạt City, a youth music programme, a hot air balloon festival, and street carnivals with the participation of international dancers. National trade fairs and a football tournament will also be held.
Notably, there will be a seminar on investment, trade, and tourism promotion in Lâm Đồng Province, which is scheduled for October, along with a workshop to build a strategy for sustainable development for the flower industry in Da Lat in the context of climate change and international integration until 2030.
The province has been recognised as very successful in organising flower festivals as a way to boost the value of its culture and tourism activities.
The previous 8th Đà Lạt Flower Festival 2019 opened on December 20 and was also a great success since it had helped attract thousands of visitors to the Central Highlands province.
With the theme ‘Đà Lạt and Flowers’, the festival ran from December 20-24 in Đà Lạt City and Bảo Lộc City.
In public areas around Xuân Hương Lake, the main streets and flower villages were decorated with locally-grown, colourful flowers.
The festival was an opportunity to honour the diligent flower farmers as well as promote the beauty of Đà Lạt.
Lâm Đồng is currently one of the leading localities of the country in producing high quality vegetables and flowers. With more than 8,000ha of a flower-growing farm, the flower yield can reach millions of branches every year.
Đà Lạt City is the mainstay of flower production in the province, with its yield accounting for about 70 per cent. In 2012, Đà Lạt was recognised as the Flower Festival City of Việt Nam.
Currently, the city has more than 400 varieties of flowers, which include local flowers and those from other countries such as Japan, Thailand, the Netherlands, France and Australia. Orchids and chrysanthemums are the two most popular flowers grown. — VNS
