HA NOI (VNS)— Two leading singers from Israel and Viet Nam, David D’or and Thanh Lam, will perform at the Ha Noi Opera House tonight to celebrate 20 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries and the 65th anniversary of Israel’s Independence Day.

They will perform with the Ha Noi Symphony Orchestra from the Viet Nam National Academy of Music and David Eaton – conductor of the Symphony Orchestra of New York.

The concert is considered as the biggest event in the series of activities to celebrate the 20th year of diplomatic relations between Viet Nam and Israel.

The Israeli Embassy has organised a number of cultural events this year, including Holocaust Day, a gastronomy cultural exchange between Viet Nam and Israel, and logo design contest.

According to Minister of the Science and Technology Nguyen Quan, the activities organised by the embassy are “significant” and will contribute to enhancing friendship and understanding between the two peoples.

“I believe that with the efforts of both sides, friendly relations and co-operation between Viet Nam and Israel will continue to develop for the mutual benefit of the two peoples and peace and development in the region and around the world,” he said.

David D’or is known as a singer, composer and songwriter. A counter-tenor with a vocal range of more than four octaves, he is a three-time winner of the Israeli Singer of the Year and Best Vocal Performer awards. He was also chosen to represent Israel in the 2004 Eurovision Song Contest.

D’Or, who has been referred to as “Israel’s most acclaimed modern singer”, has performed a wide variety of music genres.

American conductor David Eaton has been the music director of the New York City Symphony since 1985. He has also been an active composer and arranger, with 49 original compositions and over 600 arrangements and original songs to his credit. He has appeared as a guest conductor with orchestras in Asia, Canada, Israel, Europe, Central and South America, Russia, Ukraine and the US.

The gala concert will start at 7pm at the Ha Noi Opera House, located at 1 Trang Tien Street. — VNS
