DA NANG — The Melrose Pyrotechnics team from the United States won the sixth Da Nang International Fireworks Competition with their perfect combination of soundtracks and colours in a performance entitled Your Figure Tonight.
Participating in the DIFC for the first time, the US team sparked the sky, lighting up the Han River for over 20 minutes to put themselves on the victory podium last night.
The team’s fireworks tradition dates back to the 1960s in Melrose Park, Illinois, when the father of Mike Cartolano, the present head of the company, collaborated with the Chicago White Sox in the development of the exploding scoreboard. Under Mike’s leadership, since the early 1980s, Melrose Pyrotechnics was among the first adopters of the new technology for firing shells electronically.
Teams from Italy and Japan shared second place, while Russia and Viet Nam tied for third.
The next DIFC will be held in 2015, according to the organising committee. VNS
