The founder of the US dance crew Poreotics, which has won numerous competitions, will come to Vietnam to judge its adaptation of the prestigious UK competition Got to Dance.
Matthew Nguyen, a Vietnamese-American better known as “Dumbo,” formed the all-male dance crew Poreotics, which specializes in “popping” and “robotics,” in 2007.
Under his leadership, the crew finished first in the USA division of Hip-Hop Internationals in 2009 and 2010, as well as other dance competitions including Body Rock and World of Dance.
In 2010 the crew was crowned champions on the fifth season of America’s Best Dance Crew. The crew was featured in a number of music videos for world-famous artists including Justin Bieber.
Dumbo, who went by Nguyen Huu Quoc Vinh until he moved to the US at the age of 10, will join the judge’s panel along with choreographer Tran Ly Ly and dancer Viet Thanh, leader of Hanoi’s Big Toe crew, on Vietnam’s version Got to Dance 2013. The original reality talent show premiered in the UK and Ireland in 2009.
Dumbo said he was happy to return to Vietnam to judge the competition and hoped that many dance talents would be discovered.
The show is holding auditions in Hanoi from July 27-28 and in Ho Chi Minh City from August 1-2.
