Ho Chi Minh City has set up 150 sites to collect hazardous household
waste in 11 districts in a week-long campaign which kicked off on July
1.

The campaign is being organised by the city’s
Department of Natural Resources and Environment, the Ho Chi Minh
Communist Youth Union in collaboration with local supermarkets and trade
centres, with the aim of raising public awareness on the effects of
toxic waste on people’s health as well as surrounding environment.

It also helps people know how to separate dangerous waste such as used
bulbs, battery, and bottles used to contain harmful chemical substance.

Also on July 1, the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union
in conjunction with Interfood company launched a three-month campaign
to collect rubbish which can be recycled. Money fetched from selling
waste will be used to build five hygiene water supply systems for
primary schools in Can Gio and Cu Chi districts.-VNA
