Rumbia, the third tropical storm of the year, is moving northeast in the
East Sea and will likely get stronger, reported the National Centre for
Hydro-Meteorology Forecasting.
The storm has been formed from a tropical depression that was located east of the Philippines on June 27.
By 16:00 of June 30, it was spotted around 630 km northeast of Vietnam’s Hoang Sa (Paracel) archipelago.
In the next 24-48 hours, the storm will move north-north west and
northwest at a speed of 15-20km per hour, with winds of up to 88 km per
hour and gusts of 87-102km per hour.
The storm is forecast to move fast and at 7pm on July 1, it would be seen 250 km east of Vietnam’s Hoang Sa archipelago.
According to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorology Forecasting,
13 storms and tropical depressions will land in the East Sea this year,
and 5-6 of which will hit Vietnam.
On June 30, the Central
Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Control asked relevant agencies
to closely watch over the storm’s movement and vessels operating at sea
while keeping contacts with vehicle owners to deal with any emergency
case.-VNA
