The National Council for Sustainable Development and Competitiveness
Improvement needs to conduct a deeper analysis on the nation’s current
competitive capacity to figure out policies that are barring its
sustainable development.
The request was made by Deputy Prime
Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan while chairing the council’s session at the
Government Office in Hanoi on February 22.
The council also
needs to quickly develop criteria to measure the national competitive
capacity with regard to the development of national economy, which will
include monitoring and implementation measures, Nhan, as the chair of
the council, said.
At the meeting, the participants
asserted that although gaining several economic achievements last year
Vietnam is confronting challenges in intensifying its competitive
capacity in many fields.
In particular, Vietnamese
people’s average income is quite low in comparison with their peers’
average rate in other Asian developing countries. The country is also
coping with rapid and unstable growth, high inflation, and lowered
investment attraction.
The National Council for
Sustainable Development and Competitiveness Improvement was established
in July 2012, with the aim of advising the Government and the Prime
Minister in guiding the creation and implementation of strategies,
polities and programmes relating to sustainable development and
competitiveness enhancement.-VNA
