A conference to review how environmental protection models work in
residential areas across the country took place in the central city of
Hue on June 4, in response to World Environment Day which falls on June
5.
The organiser, Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF)’s
Central Committee, reported that various models launched in combination
with other campaigns, such as “All people unite to build a cultural
lifestyle in residential areas”, or efforts to reduce poverty have
raised public awareness of environmental protection.
Overall, litter in public places is down and more rubbish is recycled
, while additional trees are being planted and sewage infrastructure is
improving.
Numerous resolutions and action plans
were also outlined to expand the models, which now reach thousands of
residential areas in 33 cities and provinces nationwide.
Next year, sample models to protect the environment and cope with
climate change and rising sea levels will be launched in localities
vulnerable to climate change, starting in the Red River Delta and Mekong
Delta regions.
The VFF Central Committee asked
Party Committees and authorities at all levels to design environmental
protection schemes and crack down on violations to revamp rural and
urban areas.-VNA
