Indonesia has begun checking security preparations for the
Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit scheduled for next
October on its island of Bali .

Rahim, Director General of Tourism Destination Development at the
Indonesian Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry, said that his ministry
has issued a decree on new security standards for hotels, restaurants
and locations in service of the event.
According to
Perry Markus, Bali branch secretary of the Indonesian Hotels and
Restaurant Association (PHRI), the association has worked with the Bali
Police to assess exercise of new security standards at hotels, villas
and accommodation facilities, covering both human resources, security
staff and hotel employees, as well as building facilities.
As many as 40 star-rated hotels were designated to accommodate summit
participants, including 20 ones reserved for heads of state, he added.
At present, 158 star-rated hotels are member of PHRI and around 115 of
which have had new security standard application certified, said PHRI
Chairman Tjok Oka Artha Ardana Sukawati.
All the hotels must upgrade their security equipment and human resource skills before APEC meeting, he noted.-VNA
