VietNamNet Bridge – ZeroStation will hold a pocket concert called “soundscape” that mixes visual and sound material by three artists Blu Simon Wasem from Brazil, Sheba (Sebastien Szczyrk) from France and Unii from Japan in HCMC.

HCM City, soundscape, Brazil, France, Japan, ZeroStationFrench artist Sebastien Szczyrk performs at ZereStation in HCMC’s District 3 in late 2011.

This is a concert where audiences will have a chance to see artists play with the complicated relationship between visual and sound material, which, under the elaboration of artists, is no longer purely illustrative, but becomes a new and rich domain for endless creativity.

Scenery is captured by people’s eyes, and can be natural, social or human activities. How scenery is perceived is not only the matter of itself, but it depends strongly on people’s sensation and attitude.

Meanwhile, a sound is a sensory phenomenon listening which we can receive information that is able to evoke feeling and that can re-create forgotten memories.

However, for contemporary artists working with sound and images, the relationship between these factors is not only simple in terms of building a logical and linear input for human perception. Oppositely, by playing with the combination of image and sound, even sometimes illogically, these artists arouse our memories about what we have received from our senses, and then make questions on our present natures.

The concert at ZeroStation, 228 Nam Ky Khoi Nghia Street in District 3 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday will feature three parts. The first is the Mu Danca (dance for changes, in modulation ‘Mu’) by Blu Simon Wasem from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. The second is the mixture between Sebastien Szczyrk and Unii who will perform their collaboration work: “Line++;” from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. and from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. is conversation with artists.

Wasem, born 1987 in Brazil, is a nomadic multi-media artist who is dedicated to improvisation and experimental music. Starting as a bass and drummer, today Wasem works with violin, flute, and handmade musical instruments.

Sheba through sound performance, tries to make a journey of sound for audiences, to create a soundscape between the limit of realistic sound and abstract one.

Unii is a sound artist, singer songwriter who is living and working in Tokyo. She was born in Hokkaido and graduated Musashino Art University. Her first album ‘World, Sea and Your Eyes’ released September 2011, features a unique pop and avant-garde sound.
