Japan has agreed to provide a loan package of 90 million USD for Cambodia to upgrade its transport infrastructure.

To this effect, an agreement was signed between Cambodian Deputy Prime
Minister and Foreign Minister Hor Namhong and Japanese Ambassador to
Cambodia Yuji Kumamaru in Phnom Penh on April 30.

Under the deal, the loan will be used to widen a 47- kilometer stretch
of the national road No. 5 between Battambang province and Serey
Sophorn city. The road links Phnom Penh and Cambodia’s northwestern
provinces near the border with Thailand.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, the Japanese Ambassador expressed his
hope that the project will contribute to boosting Cambodia’s
socio-economic development.

Japan is now the
leading aid provider for Cambodia. Late last month, the former
announced a 34 million USD aid for the latter to improve its
socio-economic infrastructure.-VNA
