VietNamNet Bridge – On the evening of April 22, the awards ceremony of dedication to protect wildlife was held at the Hilton Hanoi Hotel. VietNamNet’s reporter Duy Tuan won the “Excellent Journalist” award.

The awards ceremony was jointly held by the Education of Nature Vietnam (ENV) in collaboration with the U.S. Embassy and a number of conservation organizations such as Freeland Foundation, Center for Humans and Nature (PanNature), Wildlife Protection Society (WCS), Traffic Indochina, and IUCN Vietnam.

The Outstanding Service in Wildlife Protection award was presented to three law enforcement officers and two journalists who were selected from over 60 candidates.

This is the first time this award held in Vietnam.

The winners are Mr. Tran Thanh Binh, chief of the Lam Dong Forest Protection Department, Mr. Nguyen Van Duong, Deputy Chief of the Environmental Crime Prevention Police Bureau of Quang Ninh Province, Mr. Lam Hieu Nghia, captain of Team 2 of the, Environment Police Department of Ho Chi Minh City, VietNamNet’s reporter Nguyen Duy Tuan (pen name Phan Song La) and Thanh Nien’s reporter Hoang Hai Van.

VietNamNet’s Duy Tuan won the award for his report series entitled “Raising Tigers as Pigs”, which was published last October.

This series exposed the real situation of people who illegally raised tigers in cage in the central province of Nghe An.

As soon as the articles were published, the authorities investigated, seized some tigers and punished violators.

“We are very proud to have the opportunity today to honor those outstanding individuals. The grant of the awards today is the hope for a better future for wildlife in Vietnam,” said Ms. Vu Thi Quyen – ENV director.
