Photos honour ancient island flotilla

HCM CITY (VNS)— As many as 100 photos featuring the land and people of central Quang Ngai Province’s Ly Son island district are on display at an exhibition in Ho Chi Minh City.

The photos, selected from 500 works by 52 photographers, depict a place that was home to the Hoang Sa Flotilla more than 300 years ago and still remains rich in tradition.

When the Nguyen Lords began their reign in the south of the country, they sent troops to Hoang Sa (Spratly) and Truong Sa (Paracel) archipelagos.

During the six-day exhibition, visitors will witness a land torn by war and natural disasters and get a glimpse into its painstaking process of redevelopment.

The event is co-organised by the HCM City Photographic Artists’ Association and the Literature and Arts Association of Quang Ngai in response to the Sea and Island Cultural Week held in the central province from April 24 to May 4.
