The ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) on April 3 announced that an ASEAN Super League will kick off in 2015.

The
national news agency of Malaysia, Bernama, quoted AFF Committee member
and Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) Deputy President Tengku
Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah as saying that 16 teams are expected to take
part in the event.

“Competitions will be held on a franchise
basis with each team allowed to register two players from an ASEAN
country and six players from non-ASEAN countries,” he said.

According to Tengku, the setting up of the ASEAN Super League was
proposed by the AFF to further develop football in the region and to be
able to compete against bigger teams in Asia.

Malaysia,
Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Cambodia, Myanmar and the
Philippines are expected to field two teams each, he added.-VNA
