Vietnam will redouble efforts to ensure the full human rights of all
Vietnamese and remain committed to collaborating with all partners for
the protection and promotion of human rights all over the world.
Ambassador
Nguyen Phuong Nga, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the United
Nations, made the affirmation during the 3 rd Committee of the 69th
Session of the General Assembly on Promotion and Protection of Human
Rights in New York on October 30.
She stressed that peace,
stability and development remain the strong aspirations of the
international community, which lay the foundations for the protection
and promotion of all human rights and fundamental freedoms.
The
ambassador underlined the central role played by the United Nations in
advancing cooperation among countries in the field, affirming that the
Human Rights Council, with its Universal Periodic Review, has proven to
be essential in facilitating dialogue and cooperation among member
states on human rights issues of mutual concern and ensuring all social,
economic, cultural, civil and political rights.
Dialogue,
technical assistance and capacity building should be further
strengthened to assist all countries to ensure human rights for their
people, particularly women, children, people with disability, the
elderly, ethnic minorities and other vulnerable groups, she said.
On the occasion, the official also introduced participants to
Vietnam ’s policies and achievements in guaranteeing human rights.
In
its first year as a member of the Human Rights Council, Vietnam has
taken up its role with the highest level of responsibility and
substantively contributed to the work of the Council, she said, adding
that Vietnam is strongly committed to working with member states to
ensure that the Council will continue to fulfill its mandates in the
interest of each and every human being.
Vietnam has
continued efforts to better ensure the human rights of its people. The
legal frameworks have been further strengthened while various
socio-economic programmes are implemented to ensure social security and
improve the people’s living standards.
During the discussion,
representatives from UN member states stressed the need to focus on
developing and ensuring basic rights related to health care, education,
food, as well as protecting rights of vulnerable groups.
They
also voiced their concern on political instability in several countries,
global economic crisis, food security, diseases and climate change,
which caused a humanitarian crisis and effected the enjoyment of basic
human rights.
Participants called on the UN to continue
supporting its member nations to tackle challenges so as to better
ensure basic human rights.-VNA
