VietNamNet Bridge – Vietnam’s 17-year-old girl Nguyen Thi Anh Vien has bagged two gold and three bronze medals at the South Florida swimming championships in Fort Lauredate city, and broke four national records.

This was thanks to her training with Florida’s Saint Augustine Swim Team under a special programme launched by the National Sports Administration for elite sportsmen and women.

The South Florida swimming championship drew the participation of 1,200 athletes from 100 clubs in South Florida and other athletes from Brazil, Venezuela, Cuba and Mexico.

In the 800m freestyle event, Vien was clocked at 8’51”70, breaking her national record (9’10”29).

In the 400m mixed event, she also finished first at 4’50”91.

Apart from her two golds she won another three bronze medals in the 100m freestyle event at 58”29, breaking her national record of 58”44, in the 400m freestyle event at 4’19”73 compared to her previous national record of 4’24”89, and in the 1,500m freestyle event 17’06”49, breaking Le Thi My Thao’s 2012 national record of 17’31”70.
