The National Council for Peace and Order of Thailand has given the green
light to the 2.4-trillion-THB infrastructure plan that will be
implemented during the next eight years.
Permanent Secretary for
Transport Soythip Trisuth unveiled after the NCPO meeting on July 29
that the massive investment in the transport system will be carried out
between 2015 and 2022 with the aim of facilitating social stability and
economic growth.
The scheme is comprised of five key projects –
development of inter-city rail network, development of transportation in
Bangkok and its vicinity, improvement of highway network to link
important local production hubs with markets in neighboring countries,
development of water transport network, and enhancing Thailand ’s air
transport competitiveness.
Moreover, the NCPO also nodded to a
127 billion THB project to construct six dual-track lines and also
appointed a task force to find financial sources for the project within a
30-day time frame.
Once the construction is completed, the train track will have a combined length of 887 kilometers.-VNA
