President Truong Tan Sang has asked Police Investigation Agency under
the Ministry of Public Security to pay special attention to increasing
the capacity of its personnel and improving legal system in the field.

Working with leaders of the agency on July 30 in
Hanoi on the results of its judicial reform in the first half of this
year, he noted that the police force is facing increasing challenges
posed by both domestic and world situation.

Therefore, investigation police should strengthen the coordination with
other agencies and work more closely with other state departments at all
levels to prevent and combat crimes, he said.

President Sang also asked the force to exert more efforts to avoid
missing out criminals as well as using corporal punishment during their
investigation process.

He also directed the agency to boost cooperation with international police to settle trans-national crimes.

According to a report at the meeting, in the first six months of 2014,
the investigation agency handled 52,939 cases involving 83,129
suspects, and prosecuted 35,383 cases.

Cyber and drug-related crimes are emerging complicatedly with increasing number of trans-national rings, said the report.

Leaders of the agency also pointed to some difficulties that the force
is facing, including the inefficient legal framework for new kinds of
crimes, especially cyber crime, coupled with a limitation in the
coordination with other agencies in investing and extraditing cases and
criminals consisting of foreign factors.

In the rest
of the year, the agency will continue enhancing the quality of
investigations and enforcement actions, while speeding up the
investigation against economic malpractice and corruption cases, they
said.

Meanwhile, the force will also work to improve
legal framework, enabling the smoother operation of crime
investigation, they added.-VNA
